Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu takes a tough stand; seeks answers from officials on 25 issues including delay in PM Housing Scheme
Jamshedpur:Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu adopted a strict stance during the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting over pending schemes and incomplete development works. Raising 25 major issues related to her assembly constituency, she demanded accountability from officials. Expressing displeasure, the MLA said that several decisions taken during the July 2025 meeting have still not been implemented on the ground.
She prominently raised the issue of delays in the Birsanagar Prime Minister Housing Scheme, pending since 2019, which has put beneficiaries under double financial burden. Along with this, she strongly demanded time-bound action on issues related to law and order, deteriorating electricity infrastructure, improvement in health services, and civic amenities in the Tata Steel lease area.
Double burden on beneficiaries due to delay in PM Housing Scheme
During the meeting, MLA Purnima Sahu strongly raised the issue of excessive delay in the PM Housing Scheme in Birsanagar. She stated that many decisions taken in the previous DISHA meeting held on July 16, 2025, are yet to be implemented. She pointed out that the housing project, which began in 2019, remains incomplete, while beneficiaries are forced to bear the burden of both bank EMIs and house rent. She demanded speedy completion of construction work and early allotment of flats.
Demand for better civic facilities and market support
The MLA also highlighted the poor condition of the JP Setu Bus Stand, inadequate maintenance of public toilets, and the need for modern jetting machines for sewer cleaning. She further demanded market access for products made by women self-help groups, loan relief, and the introduction of a government procurement system.
Demand for action against drug abuse and CCTV surveillance
On law and order issues, Purnima Sahu demanded strengthening of Birsanagar Police Station with better resources, strict action against illegal gambling and drug trafficking, and installation of CCTV cameras at major checking points to ensure transparency in traffic inspections. She also suggested deployment of a permanent NDRF team during the monsoon season to tackle floods and waterlogging.
Demand to simplify civic amenities in Tata Steel lease area
Regarding issues in the Tata Steel lease area, she demanded simplification of civic services, approval of electricity load in schools, provision of electricity and water connections in community buildings, and an investigation into commercial expansion being carried out after demolishing company quarters.
In the health sector, the MLA raised concerns over shortage of doctors and staff in health centres, delays in issuing birth and death certificates at MGM Hospital, and demanded the launch of a free bus service to the new MGM Hospital. She also called for improvement in the 108 ambulance service and strengthening of healthcare facilities.
Concerns over electricity, education, and environment
The MLA also raised issues related to education, electricity, and the environment. She said that in many areas, electricity supply is still dependent on bamboo-supported poles, while damaged poles and exposed wires pose serious accident risks. Expressing concern over untreated waste being discharged into the Subarnarekha River, she demanded installation of treatment plants to prevent pollution.
Additionally, she urged authorities to speed up the proposed bridge construction from Litti Chowk to NH-33, upgrade schools to Plus-Two level, recruit teachers, and establish modern skill development centres for local youth. She emphasized that all concerned departments must ensure time-bound action to resolve the problems of the region.
